“I love you。 It’s stupid how I love you。 Baronet， for mercy’s sake。 I’ve got no business loving you， and I can’t seem to do a blessed thing else。”I enjoyed this so much。Gareth thought he'd never see the man who's company he was enjoying very much after he pushed him away and later regretted。 But when his father dies and now suddenly Gareth has inherited his father's home and everything else that comes with it he's about to meet him again but in the worst way possible since Gareth has managed “I love you。 It’s stupid how I love you。 Baronet， for mercy’s sake。 I’ve got no business loving you， and I can’t seem to do a blessed thing else。”I enjoyed this so much。Gareth thought he'd never see the man who's company he was enjoying very much after he pushed him away and later regretted。 But when his father dies and now suddenly Gareth has inherited his father's home and everything else that comes with it he's about to meet him again but in the worst way possible since Gareth has managed to be in the middle of a smuggling family's business and a smuggler who he is very familiar with。 London and Kent。 Gareth and Joss。 They were so lovely， even amidst the issues they faced， there was just something so soft and tender and quiet about them and their relationship。 There's plenty going on around them and to them， quite frankly that complicated things for them。 New family for Gareth that he never knew and trying to do right by them。 Smuggling business for Joss and all that entails。 Murder and meddling family。 Joss with his trying to take care of everything and everyone， Gareth with his abandonment issues thanks to his prick of a father and learning to stand up for himself。 Even amidst all of that， there was always something so precious about these two together， the relationship making them see what matters and evolving them， I guess。 They're just so lovely together。 There's also the doomsday family， even with their edges， I loved them， minus one or two of course。 But Luke and Asa especially？ I loved them。 But there's a lot of family and found family here and standing up and fighting back as well as some danger and of course， a happily ever after。 。。。more

This was everything I expect from a KJ Charles novel - some action and intrigue， strong characters that are beautiful for themselves （not necessarily in looks）， family drama， bad guys， and slightly amoral ones with good hearts， plus a wonderful romance。I loved Joss and Gareth！

Chapters 23-24 were very long and very stressful， but Gareth made up for it by being a bad bitch。 Plus their relationship was actually the sweetest thing I’ve ever read。 *Spoiler*I thought he was gonna be like noooo don’t shoot him but he was like no please shoot him and god that was a glorious moment for me。 I will say the narrator was QUESTIONABLE

Things weren’t quite fleshed out enough within the relationships with supporting characters but this was still a super fun time。 I’m excited to pick up the second book following Luke and I hope and old Joss and Gareth pop up。 Also can there be a third book in this series that’s a sapphic romance staring Sophie？ I just think K J Charles should give me some sapphic romance as a treat。

I usually do not read HR， but KJC pulled me in。 I loved the story， especially the main characters。 Joss and Sir Gareth。 They were certainly from different worlds， but they were exactly what each other needed。 Together they fought not only with their families， but the bad guys too。 There are secrets， lies and family drama。 The last 25% was tense and I didn’t want to move。 All in all， I would give 4 stars for the story and 5 stars for the narration。
